Days of Devon Delving

The first thing we did was to get a train to Exeter and check out the Roman city where I went to school.
There are many cool things to see here especially the Cathedral which has an amazingly huge organ (he he), tombs of some knights and beautiful stained glass windows. I used to be a chorister here when I was at school but I had a bladder infection and had to go to the toilet all the time so they kicked me out. That's an almost true story.

We had a pretty damn tasty lunch of Kaslet and SauerKraut at the Exeter Weihnachts Markt where Kylie sampled the mulled wine. She has since developed a pretty serious habit.

Next day we went absolutely mad out of our brains and went for a bike ride through the village (sometimes you just have to let go of those inhibitions).

This was really fun because Kylie likes to look at all the cottages and giggle about how funny they look plus we got to ride our bikes down the smugglers tunnel (not really much of a secret I have to admit) to a secluded beach. It was freezing, Kylie made me take my shirt off and we shouted at the top of our lungs. It was liberating and embarrassing in equal measures.

Get ready for some really old stuff!

On the way back from the airport we swung by my old school. This is where my life of
incarceration began. Just kidding it's way more cosy than it looks. Sticking your tongue out would have got you twenty lashes with a birch cane back in the day.

Always one to make a stand for gender equality Kylie tried to be the first chick to pull the sword from the stone. Shame girls aren't as strong as boys.

Stone Henge was the next stop. There is something about being in the presence of a ring of mystic stones where weird beardy Druids sacrificed young farmers daughters that makes you stare reflectively into the distance. The sheep just add to the atmosphere of this magical place.

26 hours on a plane and no t.v.!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, we made it. Dan and Frankie were awesome and gave us a lift. Thanks guys.

In a ridiculous example of Sod's Law, both our t.v.'s were broken on both the planes we had to get on! Ha ha, how we laughed. This obviously resulted in me taking creepy photos of Kylie while she slept. Tracey, the charming lady in front of us helped reduce the burden by passing back her bottle of Jim Beam and forcing us to soil the alcohol-free environment of Brunei Air. You can always rely on a Brit from Kent to respect the conventions of Islam.

The long and the short of it was that it was very long, not very short and Brunei Airport has a nice clock and not much else.

So how about we get back to that little trip to the other side of the world...

OK. Thats fine. Worked out real peachy like. We had $2008 in the bank and the upgrades along with the fine for missing the flight means that we are on our way for the bargain price of $2000! Get ready for a rollicking adventure of scrounging in bins for left over pizza, drinking spilt lager out of ash trays and hitching rides down the M1 in the bastard rain!

The $2000 Mistake.

So, picture the scene. It's the day of the big departure. We're packed, we have passports, we're sitting on the couch relaxing with a peppermint tea. I have a little peruse over the travel itinerary, you know better to be safe than sorry right!? Departure time: 01.30. As in 1.30am? As in One and a half hours past midnight? I re-read and re-read and read that bastard time again but it continues to say 1.30am and thats eight hours ago.

Rob & Kye's English Christmas Holiday

Hi all,

Welcome to the first post of our holiday blog. Prepare yourself for a rollicking adventure of clotted cream and scones, apple pressed cider and not so subtle sexual innuendo. "I'd like to squeeze the juice out of those apples!" "Saucy!". But first there is the little matter of a 36 hour flight across to the other side of the world...
